MassChallenge, Inc. is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to support early stage entrepreneurs.
Occupying an entire floor at Fan Pier Boston, MassChallenge’s workspace features open office environments, semi-private conference rooms, lounges, and event space.
Unfortunately, the highly reflective surfaces within the area creates acoustical challenges to the collaborative, distraction-free environment the organization requires. Partitions installed between each workstation in the open office areas didn’t solve MassChallenge’s noise issues. A more advanced solution was required.
SOLUTION
Sound masking from Biamp’s Cambridge family of products was recommended to MassChallenge for solving their acoustic problems. A Qt 600 control module, installed into the space along with 270 Qt Emitters, was divided into six zones based on the four open office areas, lounges, conference rooms, and event space. Additionally, staff trained on the use of the monitoring and control software included with their new system.

Since implemeting the Qt system, nearly 50% of the cubicle partitions within the open office areas were removed. The environment now fosters collaboration efforts within each startup as well as cross collaboration between startups. The reaction to the Qt 600 is overwhelmingly positive. Employees report they are much happier now that noise throughout the space has been reduced. The startups also report feeling more private when using the conference rooms or when in the lounges with clients.
