Located in northeast Pennsylvania, Schuylkill Haven Area High School serves the community of the same name. Rotary Field, the school’s outdoor athletic stadium, needed a sound upgrade. “With many schools in our area cutting back in a band program, there are times where only one school has a band and does both the opening and halftime shows,” said Paul Moyer of Moyer Electronics. “Other times if neither school has a band you have nothing at either time. Even if this is not the case, for many games it’s dead silence until the game starts.”

To create a more consistent entertainment experience for spectators, the school decided to implement a new speaker and subwoofer system to serve guests for decades to come.

Solution

Moyer Electronics was chosen as the installer on the project. “We have a long-standing relationship with Paul Moyer from Moyer Electronics in Pottsville,” District Superintendent Shawn T. Fitzpatrick said. “From the CACL Center (High School Gymnasium) to recent upgrades in Rotary Field, Moyer Electronics has worked with us to partner and make gradual improvements within our budget.”

For this project, Moyer knew Biamp’s Community loudspeakers, with their reputation for providing superior sound quality for outdoor environments, would be the perfect solution. Mike Marr of Biamp served as a liaison for the install, helping determine which loudspeakers would best serve different areas throughout the sports complex. It was determined that Community R Series and I Series models could work together to achieve the powerful sound necessary for an outdoor space like Rotary Field.

This is truly a landmark system that could be a model for other schools looking to upgrade to compete.

Conclusion

According to Marr, Schuylkill Haven’s new sound system is now superior not only to those of other schools in the region but to many colleges and universities in eastern Pennsylvania. “This is truly a landmark system that could be a model for other schools looking to upgrade to compete,” Marr said.
