Biamp Vocia Integrates Emergency Warning and Public Address Functions at Major International Airport

BEAVERTON, Ore., USA & PERTH, AUSTRALIA — Biamp, a leading provider of professional audiovisual solutions, today announced the successful deployment of its Vocia paging and public address system at Perth Airport Terminal 2 in Western Australia. The installation, completed by integration partner Integrate Perth, represents a breakthrough in combining Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System (EWIS) functionality with high-quality public address capabilities on a single platform.

“The airport is a place that connects people physically, and at Biamp, we are focused on creating extraordinary audiovisual experiences that connect people wherever they might be,” said Niclas Brattberg, General Manager, Middle East and Asia Pacific Markets, Biamp. “For Integrate Perth and the Perth Airport to use the Vocia system to bring together EWIS functions with public address capabilities within in a single, flexible platform, it is a tremendous achievement.”

Traditionally, EWIS and public address systems are separate entities, each serving distinct purposes. EWIS is designed to deliver high-volume emergency alerts, ensuring they are audible across large spaces, while paging and public address systems prioritize speech intelligibility and background music. This division often results in redundancy, increased infrastructure costs, and poor-quality background music when played over emergency loudspeakers.

In response, Perth Airport engaged Integrate Perth to deliver a state-of-the-art communication system leveraging the Biamp Vocia paging and public address system with the airport's EWIS. The combination provided a seamless, high-quality solution that enhances both day-to-day operations and emergency preparedness.

"Vocia is the perfect solution for Perth Airport Terminal 2 in that we could provide a compliant emergency warning system along with high intelligibility for public address announcements, including zone-paging capabilities," said Andrew Anderson-King, Sales Director, Integrate Perth. “The beauty of the Biamp Vocia product is its decentralization. We're not reliant on a central server or a central processor. We see a trend in these types of systems being ideal for large buildings where highly intelligible audio is required.”

The system includes a Biamp Vocia MS1 message server, enabling staff—from the comfort of their desks—to remotely log into the system, make necessary changes, or shut it down, if desired. The system is also infinitely programmable for pre-recorded messages within the schedule, along with the ability to monitor every single Biamp device on the network.
