Steve Metzger Joins CEO Advisory Council for Greenlight Greater Portland

BEAVERTON, Oregon — Biamp Systems CEO, Steve Metzger, has joined the CEO Advisory Council of Greenlight Greater Portland, the metro region's public-private economic development organization, and will be taking an active role on the council throughout 2011. The council works to enhance the economic vitality of the Portland metropolitan region in marketing and business recruitment and retention initiatives.

"Biamp is committed to collaborating with other Portland-based companies in an effort to attract the best talent to the area," said Metzger. "It's vital to the business community that we create and attract great companies here, and the best people to work for them. The region offers those who live here a high quality of life, and a working culture known for innovation. I'm happy to join this impressive group of leaders in the Portland business community who are focused on making this region the most desirable destination for talented people to live and work."

Metzger joined the Council on the eve of Greenlight's merger to create the Portland metro region's first-ever public-private economic development organization. Greenlight's new governing board includes about 20 CEOs of major private corporations plus five of the region's mayors, including the mayor of Beaverton, and other elected officials from across Portland-Vancouver. This board looks to the Advisory Council for guidance and intelligence as the organization develops and implements a strategy to grow the economic base.

Metzger joins a growing list of Portland-based CEOs that helm businesses that have helped shaped the landscape of Portland business. They include:

  • Mark Bocchi, Alaska Airlines
  • Scott Langley, Ashforth Pacific
  • Jay Haladay, Coaxis
  • Mark Clemons, Group Mackenzie
  • Dr. Richard Lariviere, University of Oregon
  • Dan Wieden, Wieden+Kennedy

Council members have a number of different responsibilities, including:

  • Serving as advisers to the Greenlight board and staff.
  • Increasing awareness of greater Portland's assets as a place to do business.
  • Helping grow the engagement of regional company CEOs and prospective investors in the work of building the Portland-metro regional economy.

"Steve Metzger's decision to join and invest in Greenlight was a major plus for the organization," said Gillian Floren, CEO, Greenlight Greater Portland. "As the CEO of a fast-growing manufacturing company, Metzger can deliver to the Council and the board insight and industry perspective that's been missing to date. It's my hope that his presence will inspire other manufacturers to join our ranks."
